What Is French Gel Manicure?

The French manicure rose to popularity in the mid to late 1970s when it was introduced to Paris fashion shows and Hollywood stars by creator Jeff Pink. The simple makeup of natural pink bases with white-tipped nail ends makes the French manicure a timeless style that is as popular today as it was 40 years ago.

French manicured nails are both natural looking and extremely versatile. This nail style can be worn in its natural state, or used as a solid, protective base on which to add polishes and other applications. The versatility of French manicured nails and their simple yet elegant style make them a desirable choice for many.

Different French Manicure Applications

Give a gift certificate for a French manicure from Salon NouveauThere are three possible ways in which French manicures can be achieved, through the application of acrylic shellac, in gel form, or a combination of the two. Several major differences exist between these methods, in both application and quality.

Acrylic Nails

Acrylic artificial nails can be applied using two methods. The first method utilizes the application of acrylic monomer that is dipped into a polymer powder. This creates a pliable substance that is applied to the nail bed and molded into form. It takes approximately 48 hours for the substance to fully cure, but it can be filed within a few minutes.

In the second method, artificial nails are applied over the original nail beds using glue made from acrylic liquid and a special powder. These nails are often pre-sculpted to fit over the individual’s unique nail beds. This method requires less skill and is usually less expenses due to this fact.

Quite often, only the white tipped portions are applied in either method.

Gel Nails

French gel manicures consist of the stylist applying two or three coats of pre-mixed gel nail polish solution to form a durable and brilliant nail base. A UV light is then used at a low wattage to fully cure the gel on the spot. This gel substance should not be confused with gel nail polish commonly offered in stores which does not build nail bases in the same way.
