Answers to Your Questions About Waxing

Are you tired of the seemingly endless process of shaving, or do you want targeted hair removal that you don’t want to do on your own, such as eyebrow shaping? If so, then waxing could be right for you. Waxing leaves skin silky and smooth for much longer than shaving, freeing you from daily shaving and the skin irritation that comes with it. If you’re considering making an appointment at the beauty salon for waxing, here are the answers to some of the questions you may have about what to expect.

What areas of the body can be waxed?
Waxing isn’t limited to legs and eyebrows. The parts of the body that can be waxed depends on the services provided by the salon you choose, but generally, in addition to legs and eyebrows, waxing can be formed these areas:

• Arms, including under arms
• Face, including lips, chins, and sideburns
• Bikini line/genital areas (Brazilian wax)
• Hands
• Feet

Keep in mind that your aesthetician cannot perform waxing on skin that has been treated with Retin-A or similar topical solutions. You may also not be a candidate for waxing if you are taking Accutane.

Do I have to let my hair grow out for waxing?
For waxing to be successful, you have to have enough hair for the wax to grip. Typically, allowing two to three weeks of hair growth to occur before waxing will give you the best results. Your aesthetician can give your more personalized advice based on your hair growth cycle.

Does it hurt?
Waxing isn’t completely painless, but it is fast and tolerable. Your aesthetician will work with you to make it as comfortable as possible. Tricks like pulling the skin taut will make the process easier. You will also find that waxing becomes more comfortable the more you have it done, as the hair will come out of the follicle easier when you wax frequently.
